Colorado is a no-fault state, which means you do not have to prove anyone did something wrong. The shortest path is filing a petition, exchanging financial disclosures, and resolving the four core issues: parenting time, decision-making, support, and property. Contested cases take longer; uncontested cases move quickly. We will tell you which one yours is likely to be at the consultation.
No. Colorado is an equitable distribution state, which means property is divided fairly, not necessarily equally. Length of marriage, financial contributions, separate property issues, and earning capacity all factor in. A 50/50 split is common but never automatic.
There is a 91-day mandatory waiting period from the date of service. Uncontested divorces with no children can finalize shortly after that window. Contested divorces with custody, business valuations, or complex assets typically run 9 to 18 months.
You can self-file. Most clients who try regret it after the fact, because they did not know what they did not know: tax treatment of maintenance, retirement division paperwork (QDROs), or how a small drafting choice locks in years of consequences. A consultation tells you whether your situation is actually as simple as it seems.
It is free. You will leave the conversation with a clearer picture of your case, the likely path, and what representation would cost. No pressure to retain on the spot.
