Colorado uses "allocation of parental responsibilities" — parenting time and decision-making — decided on the best interests of the child. We help you understand the factors involved and build a strategy around them.
There is no automatic 50/50 presumption. An equal schedule is a common outcome, not a guaranteed starting point. A judge weighs the best-interest factors case by case, and we explain how they are likely to apply to you.
Instead of "legal custody," Colorado assigns decision-making for major choices about education, healthcare, and religion. It can be shared or assigned to one parent depending on the case.
Yes. Under C.R.S. 14-10-131, modifications generally cannot be requested until two years after the last order (with safety exceptions). We also bring enforcement actions when the other parent ignores the parenting plan.
A Child and Family Investigator may be appointed to interview the child and parents and give the judge an impartial recommendation. We prepare you for that process so your child's voice is heard appropriately.
